Cowgirl Party

Every year my lovely wife and her best friend, makeup artist Rachelle Remington, get together with the husbands to do a photo shoot with a chosen theme. This year was a western theme. And in Utah it is not to hard to find locations that would make a great western background.

Actually at the time of this writing, we have only gotten through half of our shoot. We had to stop because Stephanie got sick and we have put off the shoot till next week. But we did get a few shots in the town of Heber where great history has been reserved. The first spot was in a shopping area that is housed in old buildings.

It was kind of a fun visit as I had a flashback of filming there 22 years ago my feature “Handcart” where we shot several scenes. Heber is also where I worked in the Art Department 30 years ago on a film with Kathy Bates and Eddie Furlong called “A Home of Our Own”. That was my first experience with working on a Hollywood production.

After getting shots at the Old Heber Town, we moved over to the station of the Heber Creeper. My memory of the Heber Creeper came 3 years ago when Stephanie and I became empty-nesters. And on the first day of school for the Alpine School District, where for 30 years I have taken my 5 kids to school, we finally celebrated “Non-School Day”. While the parents around our neighborhood were getting their kids back to school, we took the day off and hung out in Heber, one of our stops being a ride on the Historic Heber Creeper.

Rachelle has been the motivating force to doing these photo shoots. Her husband Wendell is the photographer, and I might take photos with my iPhone here or there. But my role is the driver and entertainer by lugging around my battery-powered speaker with the right music (1970’s-1980’s rock ‘n roll).

In the past, our trip usually consisted of going to Fantasy Canyon, outside of Vernal, Utah. The canyon is so funky shaped that we would mostly do themes such as Star Trek or Star Wars, it looks like we are on another planet. (Maybe I will make a post of past visits to Fantasy Canyon.
